The Story Behind Rockville Truth and Verity

There have been many questions raised about the anonymous nature of this Facebook page and website and its intent. Here is a brief statement on the origins of Rockville Truth and the Rockville Verity web page.

A group of Rockville residents gathered to discuss the election. The residents were disappointed that there was no local news outlet to help educate and inform the citizens of Rockville about the election -- or anything. Bethesda Beat is good, but the county politics keep their few journalists busy. The Montgomery Sentinel is also good, but unable to focus solely on Rockville. The Washington Post has trimmed their local reporters down, and do not have the dedicated staff needed to expand to municipalities. Investigative journalism is rarely seen on the County level.

This group of residents wanted to do something. In election years, or any year, information is filtered through political lenses. Rockville residents should have the raw information available, to make a decision on a candidate or a policy. Right now, this doesn’t exist. So Rockville Truth was formed.

This is not a “whisper” campaign. This is not being done by professionals as evidenced by typos and grammatical errors. This is not a full time job for anyone. This is just a grassroots effort to breathe life into local news by reporting what other outlets are not.

Anonymity is necessary because the truth can be harsh and retaliation and retribution is real. We hope that there comes a time when that is not true, but for now it is.

Thank you for reading and thank you for your input. Good or bad, we need to hear it.
